A dream come true

A couple from Trowbridge are preparing for their fairytale wedding today after winning hundreds of pounds worth of prizes in a Wiltshire Times competition.
Jackie Bradbrooke, 34 and William Hartley, 35, of Adcroft Street, Trowbridge, brought their marriage plans forward a year after winning the top prize in our Win a Wedding competition. The couple, who first met at Trowbridge College in 1990, will marry at St James Church at 2pm today.
Miss Bradbrooke’s mother, Sue, said winning the prize, which included a wedding dress, reception for 50 people, photographs and rings, meant the couple could have the wedding of their dreams.
“It is like a fairytale. They have had all the things they wanted, but might never have had. It has been magical,” she said. “It is very special. We are looking forward to it. They are so happy together, it’s lovely.”
Miss Bradbrooke said: “I’m a bit nervous. I’m looking forward to the photographs. We were gobsmacked when we won but it has sunk in now.”
Mr Hartley, a packer at PB Beauty on the White Horse Business Park, first met Miss Bradbrooke, a volunteer at Larkrise Community Farm in West Ashton Road, at Trowbridge College. After losing touch they became friends again in 2002, and got engaged in February 2008.
The couple were able to plan their dream wedding after entering our competition at the Wiltshire Times Wedding Fair at the Civic Hall in Trowbridge in September.
As part of the prize they won a wedding reception for 50 people at the Methuen Arms Hotel, as well as an overnight stay in the honeymoon suite.
They also won wedding rings from Sipsons Jewellers in Trowbridge; a wedding dress and bridegroom’s hire outfit from Victoria in Fore Street, Westbury; bridal flowers from Neston Flowers; a pamper party by Pinkies of Frome, a two-tier heart-shaped cake from Henleys Cakes of Distinction, Staverton; wedding stationery from Best Laid Plans in Bradford on Avon; hairdressing by Contrast Hairdressing in Trowbridge; five wet shaves from the Barber Shop Trio; wedding photographs by Tony Powell; seven wedding favour boxes from Seventh Moon Wedding Design and make-up by Beauty Boutique, Westbury.
Marieanne Elliott, of Balloonsbyme, of Liden near Swindon, stepped in at the last minute to provide displays featuring almost 100 balloons at the reception. She said: “It is a bit daunting as we’re going on holiday this Saturday, but we were happy to step in.”
The happy couple’s best man will be James Vingoe, while their bridesmaids will be their nieces Roxanne Bradbrooke, 15, and 18-year-old Robyn Hartley, who coincidentally both live with family in Spain.
After the celebrations, they will be heading down to Dorset for a week’s stay in a cottage.
New flower power

A NEW business in Bradford on Avon aims to bring quality flowers, including Fairtrade and organic blooms, to the town.
Jacqueline Mehrez has been running Neston Flowers from her home in Neston, near Corsham, for eight years.
But she had chance to move into the former premises of Kingstons estate agents in Church Street, she jumped at it.
The 38-year-old, who spent 15 years training to be a florist including a stint in the US, said she spotted a gap in the market in the town.
"The shop is in a great location and many of our customers already come from Bradford on Avon but they have to drive over to us in Neston," she said.
As well as fresh flowers direct from Holland, Miss Mehrez also supplies a range of silk flowers, which she can make into arrangements.
She also has employed a colleague who specialises in plants.
The new shop will be open for business on April 19 2008, after an opening party the night before.
